OverviewThe Real Polar Bears (RPB) is an interactive game that educates the user on environmentally friendly practices like recycling, saving electricity by turning off the lights and saving water.
The Polar Bear (real) is sinking and you must gather enough deeds (points) in order to save her from sinking in the ocean! |

Gameplay
GAME 1: Recycle Waste! The user has to throw metal and paper in the recycling bin (make baskets). The passage of an item is detected by a beam break sensor. On making a basket, the user wins 2 points and the machine provides feedback by flashing yellow LEDs and an audio sound effect. GAME 3: Turn off (Whack) the lights!
Lights come on randomly on a 2X2 grid and the user has to "whack" them off using a hammer. The hammer provides a reflective surface that is detected by an IR-LED sensor. Lights come back on after they are turned off after a few seconds. The user gains 1 points per correct whack. Audio feedback is also provided to the user. |
The RPB consists of three distinct games that the user plays simultaneously. The objective, apart from learning how to save threatened arctic creatures, is to gain as many points as possible in each of these games. The user has 60 seconds before time runs out and the polar bear sinks :( GAME 2: Save Rainwater!
Rainwater (flashing blue LEDs) drops randomly in one of three vertical columns. The user has to move the bucket under the column of rainwater using the slider potentiometer in order to collect it before time runs out. The user wins 3 points on collecting water successfully and gets an audio sound effect feedback. |
Finally, after 60 seconds, if the user has earned enough points, a happy polar pops out with a sign indicating that the user saved her! A melodious tune starts playing inspiring the user to take up polar-bear friendly practices in his/her daily life.
